On the basis of objectively and scientifically analyzing the ideological struggle, the author seeks to highlight the struggle between Vietnam and the United States in the ideological front in the anti-American resistance war of the Vietnamese people (1955-75). The article also introduces the historical context of the world politic life during the period to readers. The Vietnamese people are continuing to build the country for wealthy people, strong country, just, democratic and civilized society creating great role in the international arena.

The magnanimous resistance war against American imperialism of the Vietnamese people gained the victory in the Spring of 1975. Despite the fact that the war has long passed, it leaves behind lesions for further considerations in order to evaluate the long past based on new materials and reappraisal, including the historical context of opportunity appearance of the South-Vietnam liberation creating the end of war in the Spring of 1975.

With the sound, creative, independent and self-mastery revolutionary ways as well as the good basis of the favorable and timely opportunity, the Communist Party of Vietnam proved the right and keen strategic guideline and art of creating opportunity and making up the strategic turning point in order to change the face for gaining the decisive victory and ending the war.

In the resistance war anti American imperialism, the Southern battlefields, South Central, Southern Highlands (so-called B2) took an extremely important strategic position. Directly commanding the Revolutionary Armed Forces in this area was the High Command of Liberation Army of South Vietnam (Zone High Command for short), dating from 1961. After the liberation of South Vietnam, the revolutionary nature completely changed, but this High Command prolonged to exist within 14 months and 7 days. The High Command contributed significantly to the success of Vietnam's revolution in the years 1975-76, to build up the armed forces on the road of regular and élite army building.

The struggle of the liberation of South Vietnam, national unification marked the national liberation revolution of the Vietnamese people. On the integration path, Vietnam naturally inherits the national historical legacy such as revolutionary struggle tradition, experiences of international exchanges and cooperation in the struggle for independence. As a veteran politician, top diplomat of the United States, one of the important figures in the Nixon bureau's advisor, the National Security Adviser, Henry Kissinger’s memoirs in Diplomacy (Henry Kissinger, Diplomatia, Editura All, Bururesti, 1998 - Diplomacy, Simon & Schuster Publishers published in 1994) provide much of information or the U.S’s sinking in Vietnam War in particular and Indochinese War in general more than 40 years ago under the two presidencies J.F.Kennedy and L.B. Johnson. In order to provide materials to readers in studying on U.S involvement in Indochina and Vietnam for their global strategy, I have translated the basic content in the Chapter 26 named "Vietnam: on the Road to despair: Kennedy and Johnson".

Giáo sư Văn Tạo, tên thật là Nguyễn Xuân Đào, sinh ngày 29 tháng 4 năm 1926, tại La Tỉnh, huyện Tứ Kỳ, tỉnh Hải Dương, công tác ở Ban Văn Sử Địa từ ngày 8 tháng 12 năm 1953 đến năm 1960, ở Viện Sử học từ năm 1960 đến tháng 12 năm 1999 nghỉ hưu. Công tác Đảng từ năm 1953, Đảng ủy viên Đảng ủy Ủy ban Khoa học Nhà nước (nay là Viện Hàn lâm Khoa học xã hội Việt Nam) 1959-1960.
